LJ, How I Loved Thee
I will be leaving my El Jay in the coming months.
It seems
the_glass_jc started a trend.
I will be abandoning LJ primarily for one major reason, which I will mention below. A lesser cause of my decision to dump the living journal is this: The other day, when I checked my friends page from my work computer (and so wasn't logged in), I noticed that there was a big, ugly side banner ad on the right of the page. I don't recall electing to sell out my livjournal for ad space for the few extra features they provide for that. I know LJ is just doing what it can to pay the bills and make the revenue, and I am not saying they aren't allowed to do with their site whatever they want. But it just seemed a little disappointing that LJ is resorting to that.
I recently read about how Facebook will randomly block information that references to things the Facebook admins don't like for whatever reason. And more and more, I read about how sites like MySpace/Blogger/whatever social site du jour will make information disappear, modify their TOS to claim ownership of content added by users and all sorts of other mayhem that just seems to bug the crap out of me. And, of course, the ads. I should applaud Livejournal for being one of the least ad-riddled social site out there, but I am just getting a little annoyed with all the ads that are appearing everywhere, slowly but surely.
"Well Tim, if you don't like it, don't use it!" If you thought that, you're absolutely right! The primary reason I am abandoning LJ (and Facebook, and NOT GOING BACK to MySpace) is because I will be making my own site. I will be reopening, after many years, the All Night Gyme! And rather than it being a portfolio site for my failed Web design aspirations, I am going to make it my own personal blog/content/social networking outlet dealie! I am going to make it more advanced than the manually-updated predecessors, and I will even allow for others to add comments and post things to it! And, best of all, there will be no snuck-in banner ads!
I'm not so arrogant that I expect everyone on my friends list to have to migrate over to another Website just to read my updates. I hope to be able to provide enough enjoyable or thought-provoking content that people will want to come to the site. And I will provide information as to when I will make the official move and leave from LJ land forever. So there.

I already have the Website in the works, but if anyone has some recommendations or good ideas for me, I will gladly
