Contemplating the next Big Thing
I am wondering the secret formula to making the next site that takes off and allows the creator to retire a millionaire in a matter of months. So far I have made a few noted observations in the fare of sites out there that have taken off fairly quickly (Google, MySpace, Wikipedia, et al.)
1. The site must be accessible to all. Anything that requires people to pay will not make it. The most the site can require is to make a user register, and if that is done, registration must be quick and easy.
2. The site must be seemingly simple yet frustratingly complex at the same time.
3. The site must either provide a service that provides gratification instantly or allows people to network with one another in a gratifying manner.
4. The concept of the site cannot have already been created, lest it be relegated to the scrap heap of copycats.
5. Your site cannot be sued into oblivion before you have the money to fend off all sorts of lawsuits.
I am sure this is just like saying millionaires are successful because they have lots of money, but it's a start.
